Bluestone is one of the most exciting paving stones available for landscaping today. It is a versatile stone suitable for heavy wear areas such as driveways. It is equally at home when used in a casual garden path or around a modern pool setting. Bluestone retains its appeal over many decades and responds well to sealing which makes cleanup very easy. Bluestone is available in a huge range of sizes and also in various thickness’s, seek professional advice before selecting the thickness of your stone as it varies according to application.
Edwards Slate & Stone was the first company in Melbourne to import and distribute bluestone. The quarry we selected in China produces bluestone of a very similar quality and colour to the local blue stone in Port Fairy but at a fraction of the price.
Honed Bluestone also known as Honed Basalt, has been buffed with a honing machine to create a smooth yet non slip surface suitable for internal floor paving such as pool rooms & bars, outdoor applications including swimming pool coping & surrounds, patios, entertaining areas e.g. BBQ, garden paths & walkways, heavy duty driveways. Bluestone is a dense, durable hardwearing stone often used in commercial applications e.g. paving in Melbourne CBD, airports, hotels, etc.
Our Bluestone with aesthetic beauty and colour, has the right amount of open pores commonly known as “cats paw” giving a unique appearance closely resembling the well known Australian Bluestone in both colour and texture.
Our Dark Honed Bluestone, honed to a semi polished finish, is a compact grained stone with minimum colour variation, suitable for internal applications both domestic and commercial.
Recently large volumes of Chinese Bluestone have been imported into Victoria by other suppliers, from another area in China and this Bluestone has failed to perform well (comes away from the mortar it has been laid into); however the stone looks attractive in a showroom environment and is cheaper in price. This type of Bluestone is also sold as premium grade, however, it is clearly not the case. So buying Bluestone from a trusted and knowledgeable supplier is important.
