It all started with George Edwards in 1922, at the age of 24, who founded G.B Edwards & Son specialising in general stonemasonry work. George learned the trade from his father who was the foreman at the Footscray and Malmesbury Steam Stone Cutting Company. At the time, George worked on a variety of projects consisting of churches, headstones, commercial building and statues (of returning soldiers from WW2).
The Son of George Edwards (Senior), George Edwards (Junior) with wife Greta, took on developing the business and changed its direction to keep with the stone industry. A big part of this change was supplying the slate for the billiard table boom in the 70’s and tiles for flooring and roofing.
Since then the business has taken on a new face with third-generational owner Steven Edwards, also a stonemason by trade, who has lead the business up until today. We are proud to introduce the fourth generation Liam Edwards who is learning the trade while studying his Civil Engineering degree.
